True Detective is Ruining My Life
On Friday in the United States, one of my favorite shows going right now ended up streaming on Netflix, House of Cards. I got through two episodes this weekend largely because I was pointed in the direction of True Detective, an HBO program that's currently at the midpoint of its first, self-contained season. I thought it was a police procedural, I knew it starred two actors that I'm not really a fan of, and, frankly, I watch enough television as is. I don't need another show.
Then things got Weird.

New York Toy Fair 2014 Photo Recap
I had the opportunity to take a pretty quick stroll through New York Toy Fair, gazing at all of the amazing new toys and games for 2014. Hasbro was in a secret offsite location and Lego was walled off with tons of security, so you won't see much from them here. But KidRobot was wide open! Same with Funko, Fantasy Flight and many others.

A Field Guide to Brandon Sanderson
In a couple weeks, arguably the most anticipated fantasy novel since A Memory of Light (the book that concluded The Wheel of Time, which Sanderson had a role in) is set to be released. The book, Words of Radiance, is the second book in Sanderson's epic fantasy series The Stormlight Archive, a series that is planned for ten volumes and have so far ended up being over 1000 pages each.
Yeah, it's one of those.
You might know of Brandon Sanderson for a few reasons, whether it be his work on The Wheel of Time, or someone's recommended some of his books to you, or you've seen his short fiction for iPad games, or you know me personally and I've tried to force you to read Mistborn. Either way, if you somehow don't know Sanderson's name now, and have some interest at all in genre fiction, now might be a good time to get to know who might end up being your new favorite author.
