It's day 8 of our losing battle with the Lego Star Wars advent calendar, where the minifigs are sparse and the blocky use-your-blossoming-imagination-kids vehicles are plenty. Will today shock us with something awesome and unexpected like a rancor or Admiral Ackbar dressed up like one of the three wise men? Probably not...
But let's pop open Door Number 8 and see what we got...
And... it's... a....
YAAAAAAWN.
Look at that thing? What are you going to do with it? Display it on a shelf? Stage elaborate battles with it? Forever try to explain to everyone around you what the hell it is supposed to unconvincingly represent? If you're not a diehard, dedicated Star Wars fan then you're going to have a hard time guessing at any of these. They're like blocky Rorschach tests. It could be anything from a demented sheep to a kitchen appliance.
But dry up the kids' tears because, if you must know, it's a Republic Gunship, a popular and oft-seen troop transport that brings a lot of clones (plus Yoda) to sort out that little arena issue in Attack of the Clones. It looks like this...
Yep! Exactly like the model we got today, right? Or did I accidentally post the same picture twice? Nobody knows. Yay gunship?? The only way Lego can make this up to me is if tomorrow is Max Rebo dressed up as the Baby Jesus.
And each day I pit this calendar against the Playmobil Jurassic Park one. Sorry, Lego, but Playmobil well and truly kicked your ass today with one of the greatest gifts ever! KAPOW! But the scores are tied!
Playmobil Jurassic Park advent calendar: 4
Star Wars Lego advent calendar: 4
He actually doesn't mind it now that I showed him the picture. Me, I can't stop seeing the demented sheep. And a rancor would make up for all the wrong in the world.
ReplyDeleteWtf Luke, the LA-AT is one of the most memorable spacecraft in the entire Clone Wars era. This is an amazing addition to this years advent calendar
ReplyDeleteI agree with Leander. The LA-AT has achieved cult status, like the AT-AT of the old trilogy. My only con is that it is an almost copy of the same LA-AT from the 2011 advent calendar
