Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar 2013 Day 13: Roger.

It's day 13 of our thought-provoking journey into the Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar as we dissect and disseminate it's often baffling contents, which are rarely obvious to anyone but the die-hard fans of Attack of the Clones. (Of which there are three in the entire world). Will today be any different? Does Lego have bold and brilliant plans for the second half of our ADVENTure? I'm not so sure...

Let's pop open Door Number 13 and see what we got...

And... it's... a...

Battle Droid.

Well I guess that's... YAAAAWWWWWWWWN... Oh! Excuse me! It's just that I - YAAAAWWWWWWWWWWN - pardon me... I don't mean to nod off it's just- YAWWWWwwwwwwwwnnn ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Look, let's get serious for a moment. What is Lego doing? They play it so safe that it's getting ridiculous. There's really very little attempt to wow us anymore - it's more like they are working their way through a checklist. Most of the minifigs we get in these calendars are bland troop builders that they've previously released in plenty of sets before. They know your kids would much rather receive Obi Wan today than yet another battle droid, but we very rarely get unique named characters in any of these sets. Now, I understand that Lego has a desire to protect the exclusivity of certain figures - e.g. if you want Ree-Yees you need to buy the $100 plus Sail Barge set, but why not cast his head in a slightly different colour and put him in a garish holiday sweater or something? Something! Anything! But nope!

Enjoy your battle droid!

And for those keeping score, each day I pit this calendar against the Jurassic Park Playmobil one. Very tough decision today as both are underwhelming. I'll give it to the droid, but GET IN THE GAME, LEGO!
