Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar 2012, Day 8: Heartless Vultures.

So I guess what was supposed to be a fun, nostalgic opening of the Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar has quickly become a support group for parents trying desperately to identify obscure spaceships from The Phantom Menace for their increasingly disappointed children. Well, it that's what this has become then I will heartily embrace it! Plus, I have a feeling that some of you may need my help today.

To find out why, and what exactly this thing is behind Door # 8... join me after the jump!

You remember Star Wars, right? Oh man, it was so awesome! There was Luke, Leia and Darth Vader and the Death Star! It was all so super exciting! So when you reminisce about Star Wars surely you think of this...

Oh. OK. Another brown lump.

Well, to be fair, this one has a little more form. It's a pilotless droid starfighter from Phantom Menace, also known as a vulture droid because some of them can land and transform into something vaguely vulture like. Not this one though. What you see is what you get. You may have seen large swarms of them zipping all over the screen. In the film they looked like this...

They were dog-fighting with those yellow sumbitches that we got yesterday. It looked a lot like this:

And it sounded like this:

"PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! I'M GONNA' WIN ALL THE STAR WARS!!"
"PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! NO! I'M GONNA' WIN ALL THE STAR WARS!!"
"NO I AM!"
"PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW!"

We're sorely in need of an exciting minifigure. It's going to have to be Leia in a gold bikini to make up for this one.

In the epic showdown that is continuing between this Lego calendar and the Playmobil Game of Thrones Calendar I'm afraid I'm going to have to give the point to Playmobil this round:

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar: 3.
Playmobil Game of Thrones Advent Calendar: 5.

  1. Thank you! I'm one of those parents. And yes, the kids are currently zooming those space ships around.

  2. They can also stand up with their legs and land on a 8039 Venator Class starship. I think it is a great set for display and playability.
