Loch Ness was a 100% impulse buy for me. As I was wandering my local game store I saw it, and remembered seeing pictures from a few months ago. I pulled up the trusty Board Game Geek on my iPhone and saw that the reviews were average, and ratings were a little below that. But did that stop me?
Of course not! This looked like a game that would work at my table (my weekly game group is a little younger, and a bit more casual) and I really liked the theme and components. It was worth a shot, and I've been known to enjoy some games that aren't always the most popular.
See my top ten of 2011. :)
Now, this hasn't hit the table yet... so we're going to take a look at a whole bunch of unboxing photos. Are you a meeple fan? There are some seriously cool components after the jump.

Medium sized board with some nice quick reference material. Slightly odd view for the opposite player though. |
|
The back of the box is pretty detailed too. Nice. |
|
Double Nessie Action! These are neat, and would be fun to throw into a game of Survive. |
|
Photographer Meeples! Now these are really cool. There is a larger one in the back too. |
|
Wooden bits with printed numbers on them. I really like how these turned out. |
|
All three parts of Nessie! |

Very small rules document. It was only 4 pages long. That's good and bad, depending on your preference. |
I was really excited for the wooden bits. My only complaint from the start was that the rulebook was the exact size of the inside of the box. It was hard to fit it back in without catching the corner when closing the box. The first scratch on a board game is the toughest, so I was bummed to see a few crinkly corners. I still can't get over a tiny scratch on my Yomi Box Set that happened about two seconds after I opened it up...
Well, this month has been super busy with game events like last week's Unpub 2, this week's NJPA Board Game Alliance meetup, and next week's Global Game Jam... but I'm hoping to get this to the table in the next few weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for a recap soon enough.
And if you've played, let us know!
