I have been hanging out for this one! If you're keen to hear bands like OK Go, Weezer, and Alkaline Trio cover classic Muppet Show songs like Mahna Mahna and I Hope That Something Better Comes Along, then you may have been anticipating The Green Album as much as I have.
It's released on the 23rd of August, but thanks to NPR (National Public Radio) you can stream the entire album early for free.
Go and listen to it RIGHT HERE.
If I could stop replaying the first track over and over, I'd actually get to listen to this. OK Go really did something amazing with The Muppet Show theme.
ReplyDeletei loved weezer's rendition of rainbow connection
ReplyDeleteAwesome! My only complaint is that it is too short. I have only listened to this one twice and I already want volume 2 :D
ReplyDeleteGotta say I was a little underwhelmed. Apart from 'Bein Green' and 'Rainbow Connection' I didn't get into any of the other songs. Made me think Muppet Songs are best left to the Muppets.
ReplyDeleteI feel horrible. I'll go now.
The Muppet versions are definitely the best. There's an iconic charm to those voices for sure, so I absolutely hear you. I was less impressed by the slower songs. I liked Alkaline Trio though!
ReplyDeleteI finally got a chance to listen to the album. These are my top 5. I think there are two major standouts, and a few good ones. I'm not really sure about the rest.
ReplyDelete1. Muppet Show Theme Song - OK Go - This is my favorite. It's feels super Muppety, but they totally said the wrong first line.
2. Halfway Down the Stairs - Amy Lee - My second favorite on the album. There is something about it that I really love. Maybe it's that it's such a basic children's song done in such an adult way? I'm not sure, but I love it.
3. Movin' Right Along - Alkaline Trio - I love Alkaline Trio. This song felt perfect for them.
4. Mahna Mahna - The Fray - This one was pretty solid, but not really any different from the original. It was almost like hearing a remastered and remixed version of the original song.
5. Rainbow Connection (feat. Hayley Williams) - Weezer - The instrumentation has a really neat distant feel. I like it.
Honorable Mention
Mr. Bassman - Sondre Lerche - I wish this one was done by Flight of the Conchords.
I have loved Amy Lee from her first days with Evanescence. This rendition of "Halfway Down the Stairs" is eerily creepy, and in a very good way. I kinda feel like halfway down the stairs something will pop out of the floorboards and grab at me.
ReplyDeleteJ- I agree with your top 5, but mine is a different order:
1. Rainbow Connection
2. Mahna Mahna
3. Halfway Down the Stairs
4. Movin' Right Along
5. Muppet Show Theme Song
